Bearing Sarah Palin's Armor (includes pictures)

Thursday, June 18, 2009

As I told my Twitter peeps, I was surprised with a very sensitive, touching gift from my friend Joanne last night. When I got to church for our mid-week service, I saw her, and she lit up. Now, you have to know Joanne. She's quite the giving person, and she enjoys it so! Now, there are people who give, and then there are people who give. Joanne gives. What I mean is she's one of those people who, out of the blue, will pop up with a gift that means something, that says something, actually. And what it says is, "I've been thinking about you, and I have something so special I want to give you." With Joanne it's never just, "Hey, I was at the mall and saw this shirt, so I bought it for you"--not that there's anything wrong with those kinds of gifts; they certainly have their place. But with Joanne it's just that extra touch of love, of time, of creativity that she puts into it that makes you feel special no matter what kind of day you're having--or days, as was the case with me.

As we headed upstairs to the main sanctuary, I could tell that Joanne was as excited about giving me the surprise as I was about receiving it. Excitedly, she said, "I've got to give this to you now!" Hey, fine with me!

When we got to her seat upstairs, she handed me a cute burlap bag. I've never seen such a cute bag, but it's what was on the inside that really blessed me. I pulled out a big black frame with a double white mat. The enlarged picture was one with Sarah Palin and me outside Seward House in Auburn, New York--taken just 11 days prior! This wasn't a posed-for picture; it actually was one that I hadn't realized was being taken. It was later emailed to me by the Mayor of Watertown, Jeff Graham, and I posted it on this website. In it I'm wearing sunglasses and looking somewhat serious, as I'm standing alongside Governor Palin. Someone joked with me that I looked like one of her secret service agents! The picture is beautifully matted and framed, the black and white combo matching perfectly the black and white that both Sarah and I just happened to be wearing that day. But it was the Scripture Joanne placed next to us that really touched me. It reads, "Do all that you have in mind," his armor-bearer said. "Go ahead; I am with you heart and soul." 1 Samuel 14:7

That Scripture alongside that picture may mean nothing to anyone else, but it means a whole lot to me, and Joanne knows it; she sees it. Clearly, much of Motivation: Truth is dedicated to heralding Sarah Palin and the values that she espouses. In fact, the right sidebar states that "MOTIVATION: TRUTH IS A PALIN-FRIENDLY PLACE," and I've worked hard to make it such. I have spent many a post defending her integrity, sharing the impact she has had on my life and even the manner in which I teach, and showing the malevolence and futility of trying to take down this woman of faith. But what some don't know is something I was able to tell Sarah the weekend this picture was taken, and that is that I have committed myself to pray for her and her family daily, and there have been many hours of intercession amassed since that mandate was placed upon me. In that way, I do feel like I've been called to stand alongside her, to hold up her hands, as I told her, and to help bear the armor God has placed upon her life to lead in this nation. And before I do any of that through the written word here on this blog, I do it through the spoken word as I go before the Throne Room of God to intercede for the Palins in prayer.

See, Joanne's gift moved me because that's what she expressed in that Scripture. She captured the mandate. As I thanked Joanne profusely for the gift that means more to me than she could realize, she said, "I just see you as her defender in prayer." Listen, I have never shared that with Joanne, so her words were such a confirmation for me, but then again, she has been confirming a lot of things for me recently! Joanne went on to say how the side-by-side of the picture portrays a physical position of defense--which really just symbolizes the defense that takes place through the spiritual act of prayer.

Below I'm posting the picture of the picture (LOL!) for you to see. And as I do, I'm exposing a commitment to Sarah Palin and her family that perhaps you've never known, one that goes past the words that have ever been expressed on this blog, right to my true purpose and greater commitment to do what the Lord spoke to my heart: "Pray and pray HARD." God has a plan. Let's each do our part.

Very thought provoking, God DOES call us each to a purpose.....I feel as you do that Sarah is called of God and she steps forth in faith each move she makes. We all have the privilege to be the prayer warriors that support her. I can't remember a time in my life when I have been compelled to pray for our leaders as I am drawn to pray for Sarah Palin now. It is so completely clear the evil forces that are attacking her!
