S.O.A.P. From 1/11/10

Today I will share another S.O.A.P. with you. This one is from yesterday. For a description of S.O.A.P., read "Pressing In."

S.O.A.P. from January 11, 2010

Scripture - Genesis 22:18 - "And in they seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice."

Observation - Abraham's mind-blowing obedience to God created a storehouse of blessings. He did not hold back when God told him to sacrifice his son. He was obedient--and God spared his son. Just as Abraham did not hold back with God, God would not hold back either and blessed him and his seed.

Application - As Akeriah prayed tonight, God blesses simple acts of obedience. Granted, this situation was no simple one for Abraham, it would seem. However, God is teaching me that He's faithful. Abraham could trust God because God had already promised him that his seed would be great, so he knew God had to "provide Himself a lamb" (verse 8). God has promised me great, mighty, and powerful things. Sometimes things don't seem to lead in that direction, don't add up. But God is a better mathematician than I am! He Who promised is faithful. I can trust--even in the midnight hour--that He will come through. I don't need to worry about how He'll do it. I just need to know that He will do it--and obey.

Prayer - Father, give me that obedient heart--not just in the small things that require no real sacrifice, but in the things that seem so big as in Abraham's case where he was to sacrifice his only son. God, I'm reminded of how You spared not Your only Son for us--for me. Thank You, Jesus. I want a heart of instant obedience. Abraham "rose up early in the morning" to obey in a situation that was heart-rending. He didn't dawdle. He acted in faith--and You honored that faith and obedience with blessings. Faith always leads to obedience, and Lord, You always bless obedience. I want to trust You wholeheartedly, obey You in all things--and Your blessings simply flow as a result. Thank You, Lord. In Jesus' name. Amen! So be it!
