Police have Jared Loughner in custody for the shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona. Several others have been wounded and six killed. While police originally believed Loughner to have acted alone, they are now looking for another person whom they believe was involved, although they do not believe he pulled the trigger.
Thank God, the word we're receiving is that while Rep. Giffords is in critical condition, she is responding, after being shot at point blank range in the head. Doctors are "optimistic" about her recovery. Unfortunately, among the dead are a nine year old girl and Judge John Roll, who simply stopped by to shake a few hands and say hello to Rep. Giffords.
According to information pouring in, Loughner is mentally "unstable," has been in trouble with the law before, and was rejected by the U.S Army. Reports state that he was disgruntled with literacy in Arizona--blaming the government for trying to control grammar, has posted strange Youtube videos, and claims Communist Manifesto and Mein Kampf as his favorite books.
It is unfortunate--to say the least--that people rushed to politicize such a tragedy. My heart goes out to those who are affected by this disgusting act today, and it turns my stomach when some have no concern for life but would rather use such events to advance their own blame game. As facts come in, police now know that this murderer targeted the Congresswoman specifically, and someone who knows him states that he was not connected to the Tea Party movement or Governor Palin, as some people--sickeningly--were all too ready to suggest. State Senator Linda Lopez should be ashamed of herself for taking to Fox News today to blame the tea party.
Information is being continually updated. In the meantime, please let's continue to pray, everyone.
