Black Leaders Blame Nike for Fights Over Air Jordan Sneakers

Thursday, December 29, 2011

What ever happened to personal responsibility? Community activists and preachers in the Black community are calling on Michael Jordan and Nike to take responsibility for the people willing to kill each other over Air Jordan sneakers as we saw here. How is it that we've reached the place where everything is everyone's fault except those who actually commit the crime? What are we saying when we look to high prices and a limited supply to excuse people acting the fool in their quest for the all-important sneaker?

I'll just put it this way: with all the needs running rampant in the Black community, the least of our concerns is acquiring the newest athletic shoe. These so-called community leaders can offer all the excuses they want, but the responsibility of our actions rests on us and no one else.

Can we please get it together?

I wish that I could say that I am surprised by the reactions of these so-called leaders. Alas, I am not. We are our own worst enemy. And until we accept this hard truth and live out the principle of personal responsibility we can expect this cycle of social pathology to continue for generations to come.
