A high-speed chase grabs people's attention like almost nothing else. The adventure, the wonder, the sheer in-your-face speed pull people to the edge of their seats. They don't want to miss a second of the pursuit. It's one of the main reasons people tune in to cop shows. They hope to see such a situation and long to see where it will end up. The desperation on the part of both the chaser and the chased is palpable and, therefore, invigorating.
As fascinating as it may be to watch one person trying to outrun or outdrive another, you know what's even more fascinating? There's nothing like the experience of chasing someone who actually wants to be caught. This is what transpires in the lives of those who have made Christ the object of their attention and devotion--their pursuit. Longing to be in His presence creates a determination to go after Him, to seek His face, to gravitate to His Word. This is the application of the Lord's declaration that we will find Him when we search for Him with all our hearts. The awesome thing about God, though, is that, unlike the criminal trying desperately to avoid being caught by the police, God is standing there waving His arms, saying, "Hello! I'm right here. Come and get Me!" Jesus' sacrifice has granted us complete and total access to God. We can have as much of Him as we desire.
I am in hot pursuit of a deeper relationship with the Lord, and I hope you'll join me. After all, He longs for us to catch Him!
